For many years, Donnerschlag was the
top sire of Gestut St. Ludwig's stud of Germany, where
he left a distinctive mark on an era of breeding. His
sire, Donnerhall, was a stallion of legendary
proportion. Pirola, his dam, was a full sister to the
famous Pik Bube I. Donnerschlag has produced numerous
approved sons, including Dream of Heidelberg, Donnerwind,
Donnerluck, Donnerfurst, Diamond Dancer and Donnergold.
Donnerschlag was imported in 2000 and strands at
Fairwind Farm in Santa Rosa, California. In the United
States, he is approved by the North American division of
the Oldenburg Verband and by the American Hanoverian
Society.
The dam of this colt, Fevrier (Fabriano), is a
beautiful, feminine, dark bay mare that was high scoring mare at her
Oldenburg inspections, and high scoring non-Hanoverian mare at her
Hanoverian inspections, scoring 8s for her head, neck, type, walk, and
trot. Some of the judge's comments were, "refined", "feminine", and "the
riding horse type we are all breeding for". All of her foals have been
site champions, and her colt , Don Weltson, scored an 82.5% at a
qualifying breed show for Devon. She has been photographed by Bob
Langrish and has been featured in magazines and calendars as an example
of the modern Oldenburg breed.
